Craig Leake has made documentaries at all three traditional network news divisions, collaborating with many of the country’s most celebrated journalists, including Peter Jennings, Tom Brokaw, Dan Rather, Bill Moyers, and Charles Kuralt. His films have received five Emmys, two Peabody Awards, three Cine Golden Eagles, two Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Journalism Awards and an Edward R. Murrow Award.

Craig’s most recent project, for The Documentary Group, was Babyland about efforts in Memphis to prevent infant mortality. It was broadcast by ABC as “A Special Edition of 20/20 with Elizabeth Vargas”.

Among Craig’s other documentaries are: Peter Jennings Reporting: Guns – a one-hour ABC News documentary and winner of a George Foster Peabody Award.

God’s Country, The Stage, and Headquarters – three episodes in Peter Jennings’ six-hour ABC News documentary series "In Search of America", which explores the influence of the nation’s founding principles in modern day America. The Stage, about a Boulder, CO, high school theater production of the 1968 Broadway musical Hair, was nominated for an Emmy.

The Greatest Generation — a one-hour special edition of Dateline NBC about World War II veterans, reported by Tom Brokaw, and a winner of a Murrow Award from the Radio and Television News Directors Association.

Why Can’t We Live Together? – an examination of the state of black/white relations, on NBC; winner of a Writers Guild Award and an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Silver Baton.

CBS Reports: The Defense of the United States – reported by Dan Rather, and winner of a Peabody Award.

Prison Medical – a Discovery Channel documentary about a dedicated group of nurses and doctors who have chosen to care for inmates in Colorado’s state prisons.

The Chemo Ate My Homework – a half-hour documentary for public television stations about a dedicated group of schoolteachers who work with patients at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis; winner of a regional Emmy Award.

After three decades based in New York, Washington, and Los Angeles, Craig returned to his hometown to accept a position on the faculty of his alma mater, The University of Memphis, where he teaches filmmaking in the College of Communication and Fine Arts. His wife, Linda Robinson Leake, is an editor who often collaborates on her husband’s documentaries.
