Maria Matasar-Padilla

Maria Matasar-Padilla was with DocGroup at its inception, and before that PJ Productions and ABC News, where she began as a Desk Associate covering breaking news and the 2000 election.

Maria commenced her work at The Doc Group as an Associate Producer on The Constitution Project. Maria has been involved with the series as either an Associate Producer or a Consultant since it began in 2004. Her work with the series inspired Maria to take a hiatus from television to earn a J.D. from Cardozo Law School in 2012, where she graduated magna cum laude and as a member of Order of the Coif. She
has since returned as a Producer to The Documentary Group.

Maria first worked with Tom Yellin at Peter Jennings Reporting and then PJ Productions. She worked with Tom and Peter Jennings as a
production associate and researcher on a number of award-winning documentaries, including From the Tobacco File: Untold Stories of Betrayal and Neglect, How to Get Fat Without Really Trying, chronicling America’s obesity epidemic, and Bitter Medicine, Pills, Profit and the Public Health, an in-depth investigation of the pharmaceutical industry.

Before joining ABC News, Maria worked in theatre production as a dramaturg and is a published translator. Along with her J.D. from
Cardozo, Maria has a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and a Doctorate of Fine Arts from Yale University, where she studied
dramaturgy and dramatic criticism.99
