The Documentary Group offers internships at our New York office on a rolling basis. Our program is open to current college students and recent graduates interested in various aspects of documentary production, and course credit can be arranged.  If you have any questions, or would like to know what’s available before you apply, please get in touch.

The internship program at The Documentary Group will last 5 weeks and complete 120 hours. Most of the time spent at this internship will be with The Boeing Project and the rest will be fulfilling office duties such as mail and office organization. The Boeing Project, consisting of two ninety-minute documentaries, will endeavor to tell the story of Boeing’s role in one hundred years of aerospace innovation and commercial business, respectively. The story of aerospace innovation and its business brings to light the transformative technologies pioneered by a truly modern industry and how, decade after decade, such innovations have embodied our collective idea of “progress” and shaped our modern world.

The internship will involve fact checking and research for the film including relevant photos and footage as well as acquiring the rights and creating production bibles. This internship offers exposure to all the research, legal and behind the scenes work of a successful documentary production company. On days not spent with The Boeing Project, there are different small projects that help understand the creative and executive side of filmmaking such as assessing proposals and finding interesting material to work with. An internship with The Documentary Group will offer a well-rounded experience and allow the intern to partake in all sides of a production.

Appropriate candidates should:

  • Have an interest in documentary filmmaking
  • Be able to work well in a team environment and on independent projects
  • Easily communicate new ideas to team members
